A patient presented to the clinic with right lower back pain and a history of nephrolithiasis. I researched the use of Tamsulosin as an adjuvant pharmacologic therapy to lithotripsy in the effectiveness of stone, both renal and ureteric, clearance. The article concluded, based on data from an extensive meta-analysis, that stone clearance was faster in patients who received Tamsulosin as an adjunctive management to lithotripsy. In addition, pain scores improved and the use of analgesics was lessened when using Tamsulosin.
